Ligament Injuries
What are Ligament Injuries?
Ligaments are strong bands of connective tissue that hold joints together and provide stability during movement. Injuries occur when a ligament is stretched or torn, often during sports, falls, or sudden changes in direction. Common sites of ligament injury include the knee (ACL, PCL, MCL), ankle, and shoulder.
Common Symptoms:
Sudden pain at the time of injury
Swelling or bruising around the joint
A feeling of instability or looseness
Difficulty bearing weight or moving the joint normally
Treatment Options:
Dr. Johnson provides both conservative and surgical care for ligament injuries. Mild sprains may heal with rest, bracing, and rehabilitation, while complete ligament tears—such as an ACL rupture—often require surgical reconstruction using arthroscopic techniques. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are key to preventing long-term joint instability.
